Adventure - an unusual and exciting or daring experience
noun | [ad-ven-cher] ədˈvɛntʃə
Adventure is a unique thing. It can mean so many different things to so many people. Just as an adventure can be scaling a mountain or travelling the world, it can also be watching the sunset a few miles from your house or a night wild camping under the stars.

Adventure does not have a set of criteria or requirements. It is entirely personal - you decide what you want it to be.

Initially, I set up Mud, Chalk & Gears on a quest to try and find my adventure. Since doing this, I can't tell you how many incredible experiences I have had. From epically hard endurance races to climbing my first mountains, I am still discovering what adventure means to me and loving every minute of it.
More than anything I believe that everyone should take the time to find their adventure. It doesn't matter how big or small this is, or if it sounds impressive or not - what's important is that you get out there and look for it!

I can guarantee you, I am not the fastest or the most talented, but I do believe if you have a dream and are willing to put in the hard work required to make it happen, things will fall into place. Through this site, I want to show you that you can be ordinary and still achieve the extraordinary! I want to inspire you to find your adventure.

So start dreaming, get reading, never be afraid to ask questions, and most important of all - take that first step. Believe me, it is worth it.

Whether you’re looking to attempt your first lead, push your grades or even climb outside for the first time – […]

Baby steps up big things.

Location location On booking this holiday, the plan had been to head over to Saas Fee as it has a number of achievable 4000m peaks we could ‘try and tick off’ (Tom’s words not mine!). However, in the weeks approaching our trip, it was apparent the weather gods were not looking kindly on the Swiss […]

Slightly damp ‘adventure-trad’ at Baggy Point!

I can’t put my finger on it, but there’s something about climbing sea cliffs that fascinates me. I’m not sure if it’s situation you’re in with the smell of the sea and the crashing waves below or the extra dollop of ‘adventure’ you encounter, relatively uncertain of your route choice and where to abseil down! […]

A Dream of White Horses

When people ask me what my favourite sport is, I find it impossible to answer – I’m a jack of all trades and master of none. Amongst climbing, mountain biking, and fell running I love anything that involves being outside, especially if it’s in the mountains. Although I wouldn’t change this for the world, spreading […]
